Do your kids like to explore? The SAND Club plans to dive into an in-depth exploration of the Minnesota Wilderness. We will study the three major biomes that make up the state of Minnesota (the Big Woods and Big Rivers--the Northwoods and Great Lakes--and the Prairie)! We will be using the fun, interactive Minnesota DNR's
Jr. Naturalists booklets as the framework for our studies. By completing the activities, your child will earn "Junior Naturalist" patches for each biome, and by the end of the year, your child will have had the opportunity to become a Nature Expert!
FULLNote: For children also registered for our history studies, this club will expand their history learning as they will literally be able to experience the Minnesota Wilderness much as it was for the Native Americans, explorers, missionaries, and voyageurs of the past!
2011-2012 SAND Club: Science through the Eyes of the Pioneers
We will use the Laura Ingalls Wilder books as a launching pad for recreating a year of pioneer life, while working to understand the science behind the projects we create. We will also visit local natural & historical sites related to the books. Registrations will begin on February 1st, 2011.

Please be sure to budget for expenses associated with the Jr. Naturalist Program--the cost of the booklets, patches, and field trip fees, such as park passes--and incidental expenses--snacks, gas, etc. A current MN State Parks Pass is highly recommended as we will visit many state park programs.
